Concert 17th January 2025

We are delighted to welcome the supremely entertaining Dixieland jazz quartet, Quattro MacJazz. The band is made up of 4 internationally acclaimed jazz players from Scotland, but the name “ The internationally-renowned jazz quartet from Scotland” was just a bit too clumsy: hence “Quattro MacJazz”.

The idea for the band was discussed in 2006 by clarinettist Forrie Cairns, entertainer and banjoman Alastair McDonald, and Lennie Herd over lunch in a Glasgow Italian restaurant. A couple of glasses of wine later, Quattro MacJazz was born! The band went ‘live’ with Roy Percy making up the ‘quattro’ in early 2007. Several retirements later, the band now has the following distinguished line-up:

In 2016, Forrie retired, with his place in the quartet being taken up by the renowned clarinetist, Hamish McGregor

In 2024, Alastair retired, with his place in the quartet being taken up by the well known Duncan Findlay

In 2024, Lennie retired, with his place in the quartet being taken up by the distinctive trumpet of Mike Daly

Roy Percy is one of the country’s leading jazz bassists and is well-known to members of MiWK as a member of the Tim Kliphuis Trio.

The quartet perform all of the standard Dixieland repertoire plus uniquely arranged features such as Hamish’s outstandingly popular version of “Stranger on the Shore.” The ensemble have recorded five CDs for the Corban label and have appeared in concerts and at jazz festivals all over Scotland.
